singbutkeepgoing:

so the administration this year decided to cancel the moshpit for SING! and announced that instead, results would be announced online. a lot of the student body was outraged because these have been traditions in SING! for the longest time. with these crackdowns have been other changes, such as officially canceling woodworking and ceramics (instead they’ll happily stifle creativity through turning the woodworking and ceramics labs into computer rooms so everyone can take a full year of computer science- because who doesn’t look back on their compsci term fondly?). what i find interesting is that with time, once we graduate and as the years go on, people will forget that the moshpit, woodworking, and ceramics even existed or were offered at stuy. it soon becomes the norm that stuy doesn’t have hands-on creative classes. like way in the past, before we started stuy, people used to be able to leave the school during their free periods. we used to be able to hang out on floors other than 1,2,5 and we used to be able to return from lunch whenever we wanted and not 5 minutes before the period ended. but now people just accept it because that’s how things are. and it’s just interesting how the administration can do whatever they want, as hopeful as petitions are, they’re useless, and eventually it becomes the norm. and no matter how much freedom we think we have, the school can still decide what does and doesn’t get published in the newspaper

and just it’s gonna suck even more as the years go on and that’s sad.
